Hermon Middle School Community,
I am writing to inform you about the upcoming Maine Through Year Assessment for our students in grades 5 to 8 at Hermon Middle School. The assessment will be administered online for Math and Reading, taking place from May 5th to May 9th for all grades. In addition, we use the NWEA platform in the spring to determine students' abilities in science and language usage.
We understand the significance of this assessment and its impact on our students' academic progress. Therefore, we ask for your cooperation and support to ensure a positive outcome for our students. Here are some ways you can help:
• Encourage your child to attend school regularly and be on time. Regular attendance and punctuality are crucial for success.
• Help your child establish a consistent study routine and set aside a quiet, distraction-free study area at home.
• Support your child's learning by engaging in meaningful conversations, reading together, and practicing math skills.
• Ensure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a healthy, balanced diet during the assessment period.
• Remind your child to take breaks and remain calm during the assessment. Please encourage them to do their best and not to worry about the results.
This year, we will use small incentives to motivate students to perform at their best; if a student meets their growth goal, they will be entered into a drawing for a few dollars on a la carte. Students who miss their growth goal can still be recommended by teachers to be entered based on effort. Ultimately, we want students to do their best.
